{"id":2854,"date":"2019-05-28T12:00:09","date_gmt":"2019-05-28T12:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/1dim-peram.att.sch.gr\/theoddonein\/?p=309"},"modified":"2022-06-17T09:32:35","modified_gmt":"2022-06-17T09:32:35","slug":"a9-sports-and-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/1dim-peram.att.sch.gr\/?p=2854","title":{"rendered":"A9 Sports and Game"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Beatrice Maria Adelaide Marzia Vio<\/strong> (born 4 March 1997) is an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italy\">Italian<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wheelchair_fencing\">wheelchair fencer<\/a>, 2014 and 2016 European champion, 2015 and 2017 World champion, and 2016 Paralympic champion in the foil B category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nVio\nwas born in Venice, the second of three siblings, and raised in\n<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mogliano_Veneto\">Mogliano\nVeneto<\/a>.<sup>[1]<\/sup>\nIn her childhood she pursued three passions, which she dubs &#8220;the\nthree S&#8217;s&#8221;: school (<em>scuola<\/em>\nin Italian), fencing (<em>scherma<\/em>),\nwhich she took up when she was five,<sup>[2]<\/sup>\nand <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scouting\">scouting<\/a>\n(<em>scoutismo<\/em>).<sup>[1]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nIn\nlate 2008 she contracted what was first thought to be a <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Common_flu\">common\nflu<\/a>,\nbut turned out to be severe <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Meningitis\">meningitis<\/a>.<sup>[3]<\/sup>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Necrosis\">Necrosis<\/a>\nled to the amputation of both her legs from the knee, and both her\narms from the forearms.<sup>[4]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nAfter\nmore than three months of intensive rehabilitation she was able to\ncome back to sport.<sup>[5]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nVio\nis a champion <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wheelchair_fencing\">wheelchair\nfencer<\/a>.\nShe uses a special <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Prosthetics\">prosthetics<\/a>\nto hold her <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Foil_(fencing)\">foil<\/a>,\nfencing from the shoulder.<sup>[6]<\/sup>\nUnder the coaching of Federica Berton and Alice Esposito she took\npart in her first wheelchair fencing competition in 2010.<sup>[7]<\/sup>\nHer experience inspired her parents to found the non-profit\norganization Art4sport Onlus, which promotes sport for amputee young\npeople.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nThe\n<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2012_Summer_Paralympics\">2012\nSummer Paralympics<\/a>\nwere too early in her career for her to take part, but she was chosen\na torchbearer for the opening ceremony after an online campaign where\nmore than 1,000 people emailed the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_Paralympic_Committee\">International\nParalympic Committee<\/a>\nto support her candidacy.<sup>[3]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nIn\nthe same year, at the age of 15, she joined the Italian wheelchair\nfencing team. In 2013, she won her first World Cup in Montreal after\nshe defeated Olympic silver medallist <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Gy%C3%B6ngyi_Dani&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Gy?ngyi\nDani<\/a>.\nFor this performance she was named paralympic athlete of the month by\nthe International Paralympic Committee.<sup>[8]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> In the early 2013-14 season, she paused to focus on her studies, but she returned in June and won both the individual and team competition at the European Championships.<sup>[9]<\/sup> At the end of the year, the Italian Paralympics Committee awarded her the distinction of ?Italian Paralympic Athlete of the Year?, a title shared with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oxana_Corso\">Oxana Corso<\/a>.<sup>[10]<\/sup> In 2015, she became world champion after she defeated Dani 15?4 in the final.<sup>[1<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nShe\nwas named an ambassador for the Milan <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Expo_2015\">Expo\n2015<\/a><sup>[12]<\/sup>\nand she published her autobiography, <em>Mi\nhanno regalato un sogno<\/em>.<sup>[13]<\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> In the 2015-16 season, she received the Mangiarotti Award from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Italian_Olympic_Committee\">Italian Olympic Committee<\/a>.<sup>[14]<\/sup> She won her second European title in Casale Monferrato, prevailing over Russian <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Irina_Mishurova&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Irina Mishurova<\/a>.<sup>[15]<\/sup> In July she lost in the final of the Warsaw World Cup to Russian Viktoria Boykova, which ended her streak of 11 consecutive victories in World Cup events.<sup>[16]<\/sup> She however qualified to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/2016_Summer_Paralympics\">2016 Summer Paralympics<\/a> as the top-ranked fencer in her category.<sup>[17]<\/sup> In Rio she came out of the pool stage undefeated, winning her five pool bouts on 5?0. In the quarterfinals, she defeated Poland&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marta_Makowska\">Marta Makowska<\/a> on 15?6, then overcame defending Paralympic champion, China&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Fang_Yao&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Fang Yao<\/a>, on 15?1. In the final she met China&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Jingjing_Zhou&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Jingjing Zhou<\/a>. After she took an early lead, the bout was interrupted when the tip of her opponent&#8217;s foil went accidentally into her mask.
